The Senior Christian Review

Arre yaar, The Senior is quite a heart-breaking story. Imagine, there’s a guy – 59 years old – and has been living with the guilt of the same thing for 37 years. His scene was that he was expelled from the college football team due to some alteration. Since then, that guy is carrying a regret inside him, like a small thorn that won’t come out. And now, after so many years, he decides that he has to take a chance one more time in life. He will complete his degree and try out for the same football team. Meaning, at 59! A lot of courage is needed, Boss.

The biggest thing in this story is the principle of second chances and redemption from one’s past. What we believe in faith that “God always provides the way for a new beginning”, that is its whole essence. The guy is facing his mistakes, trying to correct his past, and is finally leaving the regret that he had been holding on to for 37 years. It’s so relatable, because in all of our lives there is such a regret that makes us eat darkness all the time. The courage that this guy shows, that’s just the next level.

And yes, this story is giving complete Prodigal Son like energy. Just like after a mistake a person wants to correct himself, he wants to redeem himself with humility. Plus, his journey is like Philippians 3:13-14 type—“Whatever was to be left behind, he left it, and the focus is on moving forward.” meaning a textbook example of how redemption happens.

But there is one thing which is a little missing—the role of faith and God is not as prominent as it could have been. Like, the person is doing everything for his own hair, which is great, but if the angle of God’s grace and forgiveness was explored a little more, then this movie would have been more impactful. Because let’s be real, our efforts are colourful only when God’s plan is involved in it.

It is absolutely clean in terms of content. There is no drama or over-the-top nonsense. Meaning, you can watch it comfortably with your family. But honestly, it will connect more with those people who have felt regret and guilt deeply. Like those who think at one point in life, “What friend, if only we could get our time back.” It might be a little subtle for the young audience, but it will definitely touch those who have gone through life’s ups and downs.

So the final verdict—4/5. The story is quite strong and the message is relatable, but it would have been even better if the faith had been deepened. Still, if you like stories that involve redemption and resilience, then this is a must-watch. Just remember, no matter how heavy your past is, with God the path to a new beginning is always open. And this film is made to remind you of that.
