Presence Christian Review

Bro, the plot of Presence seems simple—a family moves into a new house, and then they realize that not only they are in that house. At first you would think, “Oh, classic haunted house story,” but the vibe of this movie is a little different. It’s supernatural horror with some family drama and thriller moments mixed in. Rating? Let’s call it a solid 3 out of 5. Decent, but that’s all.

Look, as a Christian, one has to think a little before watching supernatural stories. This movie touches on topics related to unseen things, fear, and faith, which can be good if its message is right. Think from one side, spiritual warfare is real, right? It is also said in the Bible (Ephesians 6:12), we deal not just with the problems of the world but also with invisible powers. This is one chance to remember all this. But if the movie just shows redemption or hope without overhyping fear and darkness, then it gets a bit disconnected.

One good thing is that the story also focuses on family dynamics. There is an attempt to show how a family stays together in tough situations. If handled correctly, this can be relatable. Plus, showing courage and unity amidst fear can become a powerful theme.

But caution is also needed. A common issue with supernatural horror movies—they can sensationalize stuff. They exaggerate darkness to the point where only fear is left. And if there is only light or victory in the story without evil dominating, then that is not good for spiritual health. As Christians, we must keep a Philippians 4:8 mindset—absorb only those things which are pure and uplifting.

So, the bottom line is that if you like supernatural stories and you can watch with discernment, you can give Presence a try. But if horror movies easily become overwhelming or spiritually heavy for you, then it may be better to skip them. Always remember, no matter how big your fear is, we have a great God who has already overcome everything (John 16:33).

That’s it, decide whether to watch it or not, but do not forget to guard your heart and mind. It is not necessary to entertain the fear when the light is always going to win.
