Lurker Christian Review

The title itself—Lurker—carries a certain chill. A word we often use casually online suddenly feels heavy, dangerous, and intimate when brought into the real world. And that is exactly what this film does: it takes our modern obsession with celebrity, fandom, and social media, and twists it into a psychological nightmare that feels uncomfortably close.

At the center of the story is a retail worker—ordinary, invisible, overlooked. Until he finds a rising pop star and slowly begins to slide into her life. What starts as admiration becomes something darker: manipulation, obsession, and control. The tension is razor-sharp, not through jump scares or loud shocks, but through the creeping realization that the boundary between love and fixationadmiration and possession… has been crossed.

From a Christian perspective, Lurker becomes more than just a thriller—it’s a parable about idolatry. In today’s digital age, many elevate celebrities, influencers, or even relationships into something bigger than life. Romans 1:25 warns us of those who “exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.” The lurker’s obsession is just that—an idolization that destroys both him and the one he claims to admire.

The film captures how loneliness and emptiness can warp into unhealthy attachment. We are reminded that true identity and worth can never come from fandom or fame, but only from being anchored in Christ. Without Him, admiration easily turns into addiction.

As a cinematic experience, Lurker is tense, chilling, and deeply relevant. It speaks to an age where parasocial relationships feel as real as family, where “likes” and “follows” shape reality. But beneath the suspense lies a warning we all need: when love is twisted into control, it stops being love at all.

So yes—watch Lurker as a thriller. But don’t just see the danger on screen. Ask yourself: What am I worshipping? Who am I following? And where is my heart truly anchored?
