Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Christian Review

Yes, I watched Godzilla vs. Kong and started thinking from a Christian perspective. Meaning, the action in the movie is next level–big Titans are literally washing each other away, destroying the entire city. But if you go a little deeper, there are some things worth thinking about from a believer’s point of view.

First of all, the movie does show a good angle of sacrifice. Be it Kong or Godzilla, both are fighting for their people, not even caring about their own lives. Somehow this reminded me of the verses from John 15:13—”No one has greater love than to lay down his life for his friends.” In a way, this is a good example of selflessness and duty, which also resonates with Christian belief.

And then that life and the bond of Kong—brother, seemed to me a powerful example of strong faith and trust. That little girl connects with Kong without any fear, without any doubt. This is how our faith should be with God—like a strong child, without any doubt.

But then on the other hand, some things are bothersome too. Like, these Titans are treated like worship in a way. Meaning, yes, they are cool creatures, but at the end of the day, they are creation, right? The Bible clearly says that “Take none other than me as your god” (Exodus 20:3). But here people start giving them too much respect on the divine level, which seems a bit off.

And brother, the violence is that much! Meaning, yes, there was an expectation that there would be action, but both of them flattened the entire city. If someone has a weak heart or a younger audience then perhaps this one might be a little too intense. For parents, something is worth thinking about.

So overall, if you want to watch an explosive action-packed movie, where you keep logic aside and just enjoy entertainment, then Godzilla vs. Kong is a solid choice. But if you are looking for a deeper Christian message or spiritual fulfillment, then this movie may not be the perfect fit for you. Have you seen it? What do you think?
