David Christian Review

David‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ (2025) communicates visually in a manner less typical of a cartoon and more akin to a hymn. The film, which is the animated fantasy epic of the young King David’s life, is quite respectful and made with a lot of heartfelt sincerity. For sure, as a minister, I was touched by it on a very deep level, because the point of David’s narrative is not the one of an impeccable hero but that of a heart that is willing to submit.

“The Lord does not look at the things that people look at… The Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) This particular scripture seems to be the main organ throughout the movie.

Firstly, we see David as a shepherd (and only later a warrior) who is somehow grasped for being diminutive, disregarded as being of no use, but quietly loyal to God. His fight against enormous terror points out the age-old principle that the power in God is not a matter of one’s size and position. In the Psalm when David is scared and says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want… I will fear no evil, for you are with me,” it is the same atmosphere that is present in the movie scene when David calls on the Lord for help and trust.

The motion picture very much turns away from the idea of making violent acts honorable through the story which is a really smart move. The story is more concerned with aspects such as obedience, prayer, and trust in God’s will. First and foremost, David’s triumphs are presented as happenings of divine intervention rather than those of human power. Even though watching children and hearing the story, one can’t miss the lesson taught that God will take care of His plan through the humble who have prepared themselves and surrendered, and definitely not through the proud ones.

To the point of the gospel, this particular drama glows with the truth of the gospel. Prayer is seen. God’s calling is expressed. The storyline unerringly shifts to the Bible truths and moral integrity. As a result, it becomes a movement sermon of what it teaches that greatness begins with being faithful in less important things — Luke 16:10 recited through animation.

The film presents clear, moral, and ideal characters such as the ones showing kindness to the helpless, faithfulness to family, forgiving of enemies, and being brave because it is from the side of God. Such characteristics are very hardly found in today’s animation and are very valuable for the Christian families who are concerned with moral education. The family aspect of it is brilliant. The gentle pacing, the educational nature of the story, and the uplifting spiritual content make it perfect for children of any age.

David is not just a source of amusement—it becomes a means of growth in faith for the younger generation, thus, it is a great reminder for every generation that God delights in those who trust Him ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌fully.
