Coraline Christian Review

Okay, so let’s talk about Coraline in a way that feels real. This movie seems quite cute at first, but when you watch it, it’s a bit dark and twisted. So Coraline is one such movie that begins with a little girl, who is bored in her new house and lives with her parents, who are not able to give her much time. Meaning, it’s the classic feeling—parents are busy, and she is not getting any attention from them.

Now one day, she finds a small door in her house, which leads to an alternate world. And wow, this alternate world seems really dreamy. Her “Other Parents” love her and pay her full attention, which is something she never gets in the real world. But there is a twist here—everyone has buttons in their eyes. Yes, buttons! So creepy, right? And then that “Other Mother” with her real face offers Coraline that “Stay here forever, just put buttons on your eyes.”

As the story progresses, Coraline realizes that the world she was seeing was not that dreamy. This whole thing was a trap. Her “Other Mother” is an evil creature named Beldam, and she keeps people’s souls locked in her world. The whole world is a shiny, sugar-coated lie that gets closed in as soon as you fall from it. Coraline’s struggle was not limited to saving her parents, she was fighting the biggest battle of her life-how to create a little distance from this whole world that is hidden with one’s desires.

And this stop-motion animation! The animation of this movie is not typical cute. Her look is kind of weird- it’s bright but there’s an eerie vibe to it. The characters, those buttons in their eyes, these things are so unsettling in themselves. And when the “Other Mother” changes into her real face, she turns into a spider-like monster, seeing which many people can get scared. Even in the opening when she is making a doll of Coraline with her sewing tools, for a moment you realize that this movie is not just a normal family movie.

And the thing is that this movie is not just creepy. The themes in this are quite deep. This in a way shows how dangerous decisions we can make based on our desires. Coraline’s Other World is so tempting because it is giving her everything she thinks she needs. But that is just an illusion. Its message is that we should never blindly trust our desires. Things that seem really good can sometimes be dangerous.

And when the Other Mother transforms into her real form, it is really horrifying. Her face cracks, and she transforms into a lanky, monster-like form. And watching her moves makes you feel scared. Meaning, everything succeeds in making you creepy. Something or the other happens at every turn. But this movie is also very powerful on a deep level—that Coraline’s journey is not just a rescue mission, it is a way to understand yourself. She is learning to control herself, her parents, and her desires.

I feel this movie is a bit mature. If you have small children, then this movie is definitely not for them. Absolutely. The imagery in this movie can be disturbing-something you might not expect. If you have a slightly sensitive mind or you don’t like creepy stuff, you might find this movie a little intense. Coraline learns a lot while trying to save her parents.

And the ending is quite impactful as well. For example, Coraline rescues her parents and then has to rescue the ghost children as well. Everything shows a practical lesson- that we have to understand our desires and deal with them using our mental thinking.

Final conclusion? This is a creepy movie which is not for kids, but if you want a little horror and dark fantasy spice, then you must definitely watch this movie. This is not a normal family movie; it is a deep journey within you- which not only entertains you, but also gives you some lessons which can be a little disturbing.
