Companion Christian Review

Hey listen, Companion looks like a strange movie. The kind that plays with the mind. The story is something like this that a billionaire dies, and then after that a lot of chaos starts in the life of Iris and her friends on a lakeside estate. Now it is a thriller, but an element of dark comedy has also been pasted in it. The tagline is also very catchy isn’t it – “Find someone made just for you.” But listen, this one is not talking about any soulful soulmate type thing, it is more like hinting towards twisted and selfish intentions. Are you understanding?
Now if you look from the lens of faith, it feels a little mixed. Look, the story is interesting, but the moral side seems to be a little heavy. Meaning, the angle of relationships is completely upside down. Instead of selflessness and love, selfish motives are seen. This is God’s design for companionship—it’s just not there. Instead, greed and people are seen protecting their secrets. The story seems like a warning in a way: what is the outcome of chasing the things and power of the world. But the redemptive hope that is there is missing. And honestly, that is the big piece that makes the Christian viewers feel good.

And the tone, yes, is a bit dark. Like one second you will think that it is fine, then the very next moment something becomes disturbing. A mix of dark comedy and psychological drama, which honestly is not for everyone. If you can digest heavy themes, then you might like it. But if you do not like too intense or morally messy things, then it is better to skip it.
Personally, I would give it 3.5/5. There is intrigue in the story, there is suspense, and the unraveling that happens – it’s engaging. But, till the end it feels like there is a missing piece. The light of redemption is not found. But yes, if you like dark and layered stories, and you can look at it with a deeper spiritual lens, then this can be a good discussion starter.
But a warning—this is a rollercoaster, but not the kind that makes you happy. It is a little unsettling, and at times leaves a heavy aftertaste. So if you want to watch it, do so with understanding. And if you don’t want to watch it, don’t worry. Not every movie is for everyone, just simple.
