Brave the Dark Christian Review

Imagine the scene of a troubled teenager – Nate Williams, whose life is completely dark, haunted by childhood trauma. And then comes Mr. Deen, a drama teacher who bails him out of jail and brings him to his home. That’s it, a new chapter of Nate’s life begins. This movie is not just a story, it is a journey – a struggle between grief, fear and hope that every human being can feel at one place or the other.
If you watch it, the story of Nate and Mr. Deen is very relatable, especially if you feel a connection with the concepts of mentorship and second chances. Deen’s role here seems like a dum Samaritan – meaning, a person who helps others without any expectations. This is what Jesus taught – selfless love and grace.
But do you know what is the most powerful part of this movie? That raw emotion is seen inside the night. That pain, that anger, that inner fear – everything seems real. At times it seems that friend, this scene has become a bit too heavy, but then the realization comes that life is like this only – messy, painful, and complicated.

Now, if we talk from a Christian lens, this movie gives out very biblical vibes – without being overly preachy. This is a story of forgiveness, healing and walking on a new path. The essence of Galatians 6:2 is felt throughout the movie: “Bear one another’s burdens.” Mr. Deen literally does this for Nate.
Yes, one thing is for sure – some scenes may be a little tough for the younger audience. Nate’s struggle sometimes seems dark and uncomfortable, but that is the point. It shows the contrast between light and darkness. For this reason, I cannot give it 5/5, but 4.5/5 is totally justified.
This is one such movie that not only inspires you but also makes you introspect – forces you to think about your actions, your relationships and your faith. One thing is clear: a good mentor and a little hope can change anyone’s life. Like Nate, we all need a Mr. Deen, and if we are lucky, then maybe we can become someone’s Mr. Deen.
