Ben 10 Christian Review

Alright, so let’s talk about Ben 10. An action-packed series in which a boy, Ben Tennyson, finds an alien device, the Omnitrix, during his vacation. And with that, this device gives Ben the power to transform into 10 different aliens. It’s fun, full of action, and quite entertaining, but if you look a little deeper, it has a lot of elements that match our Christian values.
First off, family values. This show is quite strong in that sense. The bond that Ben has with his cousin Gwen and his grandfather Max is great. They help each other, and sometimes they fight, but they always support each other. This is the same concept that is in the Bible – working together, showing unity and support (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). And the show also shows that the values that family teaches are important, no matter the situation.
Then we talk about responsibility and courage. Ben is a little kid, but he has so much power that can easily go wrong if it is not used correctly. He uses his powers but often makes bad decisions because of his ego or overconfidence. And then he learns that power should only be used for good. This is very close to the Christian idea that we should use our talents and powers for the good of all (Matthew 25:14-30).

But, while all this is good on the one hand, it is important to pay attention to violence and intensity on the other. The violent scenes are not very intense, but some of the transformations and villains can be quite creepy, especially for little kids. Characters like Ghostfreak are a little scary, and Ben’s transformation in some scenes is so dramatic that it can feel a little uncomfortable. As long as these things are viewed with understanding, there is no problem, but we know what kind of content is right to show our kids (Philippians 4:8).
And using this power – this is an important concept. The power that Ben has is very tempting. Sometimes he abuses his powers, but slowly he learns that unless he uses his powers correctly, he can’t help anyone. This is a good reminder that we should use our abilities to help others, not for our ego or self-interest (Matthew 20:26-28).
I think Ben 10 is a great show that gives some great lessons about family, responsibility, and using power. It’s very entertaining, and is loved for its thrills and action. But, parents should be careful, especially if their kids are sensitive to some of the intense scenes. Overall, a good show that talks about moral choices, and can be a conversation starter for us about how we use our gifts and talents.
My final rating: 4/5. Can be a little intense at times, but it’s a fun and family-friendly watch, especially if you like superhero stories and action.
