A Wrinkle in Time Christian Review

Alright, so let’s talk about A Wrinkle in Time. This movie is a little crazy, right? It’s based on the book by Madeleine L’Engle, and there’s a lot of fantasy in it—time travel, magical creatures, weird planets—but the themes are quite deep. There’s talk of love, family, and good vs. evil. Now, if we look at it from a Christian perspective, this movie gives out a lot of messages that match our faith perfectly.

First let’s talk about good vs. evil. The villain in the movie is The IT, who is basically a symbol of all the bad things—greed, fear, hatred, and all of that. This seems exactly like the dark side of the Bible-the sin and darkness that has spread over the world. And Meg, who is the main character of the movie, believes that nothing else is needed to defeat The IT but only love. This is just like it is said in the Bible, “Perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). Meg believes that she can defeat The IT only with her love. And that power, the power of love, this is definitely Christian thinking.

Now let’s talk about family. The bond between Meg and her dad, and Charles Wallace, is the core of the story. Meg has to go through space and time to rescue her dad. This is sacrificial love. And when she rescues her brother Charles Wallace, even when everything is against her, she still loves him. The depth of this love shown is absolutely Christian—that is, we should love others despite their mistakes. Calvin, who is another character, understands and accepts himself. This is also a Christian value—to accept your flaws and value yourself, no matter what the world says.

Now the three Mrs.—Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which—seem a little mystical, don’t they? But their roles are quite interesting. These women guide Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin across the universe. They are not angels, but just as the Holy Spirit guides us in our lives, these characters help them. Just as the Holy Spirit is always with us, these characters also appear when needed and give direction to the kids. Even though there is nothing perfect in her, her role seems like that of the Holy Spirit in a way.

And then there is the matter of faith and self-acceptance. Meg’s journey is very interesting. She understands that she is not perfect, but still she can do something great despite her flaws. This is definitely a message of grace. This is true in the Christian faith too – we are imperfect, but God gives us unconditional love. Meg also understands this and then she is able to save her brother. The process of accepting your flaws is quite deep, and this movie explores it quite well.

Now there may be some people who get a little confused by the fantasy elements. Time travel, magical planets, talking flowers—all that stuff. This movie is not super Christian, meaning there is no direct Jesus saves moment. But the deeper messages—overcoming fear with love, good triumphing over evil, and walking together with each other—these are all Christian values. All these things are just shown in a little fantastical wrapping, but the message is the same as our faith.

So overall, A Wrinkle in Time is a good movie. It’s a bit weird, magical, but the messages it gives are quite heartwarming. Is it perfect? No. I wanted a little more clarity on the spiritual side. But if you want to see something uplifting and deep, then definitely this is worth watching.

I am giving it 4 out of 5. The film has heart, good messages, it just lacks a little clarity. Still, love, family and some life lessons have been shown well, so it is worth watching it once.
