Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution Christian Review

Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution carries on with the same chaotic vibe of spiritual mayhem as the series, going crazy with spirits, curses exploding in the dark of the city, and sorcerers weighed down by the broken world. At best young heroes, get to experience the price of being the ones who save. Looking at everything through the lens of Scripture, I can’t help but see the similarities as well as the disadvantages.

The movie again is around the never-ending war of man against evil that thrives on fear. Even though the storyline is fictitious, it parallels a very real thing: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood” (Ephesians 6:12). So, the movie understands the concept of spiritual battle, but it shows the progression through fighting, anger, and human skill instead of God’s authority. Thus, in a spiritual sense, it’s a mixed bag. The film is filled with war metaphors, but it doesn’t bring a Redeemer, grace, or genuine liberation.

From the moral perspective, the movie leans heavily towards morally ambiguous principles. Characters are depicted as fighting with loyalty and sacrifice – which are virtues that Scripture praises – but, in parallel, the brutal episodes are incessant, highly stylized, and merciless. The teenagers and young adults might discover it as cool and thrilling, but younger children? Definitely not. Hence, families should be careful.

There are good characters shown in the movie, though not very often. Characters possess the qualities of duty, friendship, and courage. Nevertheless, the worldview presented is that of survival first, power second, and no faith. The Bible teaches humility, reliance on God, and going away from the evil side rather than dominating it. The film combats the evil with an even greater one, to employ the literary comparison.

Still, I am forced to acknowledge that the film does not avoid the fact that it recognizes evil is there, is persistent, and causes harm. It does not pretend that the world is nice. And that honesty, albeit weird, may bring to the Christians’ minds what Jesus said-the darkness is there, but the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not grasped it. (John 1:5)

Are the shows interesting? Certainly. Are they spiritually uplifting? Not really. Nevertheless, they do provide a platform for the engaging discussions about good and evil, courage, and where the real victory comes from.
