Remus Gang Christian Review

The Remus Gang (2025) movie brings us back to the smoke-filled streets of early 20th century America’s heart. It centers on two brothers from Kentucky who begin working for a bootlegging kingpin in Cincinnati’s infamous “Sin City” of Newport, Kentucky. It’s a tale about ambition, loyalty and the gradual erosion of innocence in the face of temptation.
The Christian heart in me feels like it’s a modern-day retelling of the prodigal story—except there was no homecoming. These brothers are fortune-seeking and thrill-loving in a world saturated with sin. Each battle for supremacy demands a price and something precious is lost. Which mirrors a well-known Bible verse:
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” Certainly!
Faith and spirituality are almost completely absent from the film and that is to the immense detriment of every scene. The glamour of the bootlegging world conceals a profound inner void. Friendship to betrayal, love to loss and joy to judgment. There’s no redemption arc because every sinful kingdom will eventually fall and none of the things she can build atop the lives she’s destroyed will stand.
Needless to say, the film’s tone is gritty, the language raw and moral lines blurred. But through the chaos, one truth could be heard: no matter how enticing darkness looks, it cannot substitute the peace of walking in the light.
But the day came when the Remus Gang ceased to be. It’s an unwavering, steady force that remains the same always and targets specific and predetermined objects.
