In the Lost Lands Christian Review

In the Lost Lands is a film that explores many things in the dark fantasy genre – action, mystery, and a little suspense too. The plot is such that a sorceress, Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), sets out on a mission of her life – to find a magical power that can be used to turn into a werewolf. This power is needed by a queen who is searching for her happiness and love. Now this is all a movie with supernatural twists and fantasy elements, so if you like adventurous and mysterious stories, then this could be for you.

But, from a Christian perspective some things may be a little troubling. Gray Alys is a sorceress who uses magic and dark powers. Christianity has a very clear stance on such elements – like using witchcraft and magic, which are outside God’s plan. Such things are a little risky spiritually as we are manipulating God’s design, which is not right according to Christianity. This movie shows a world where evil creatures are hiding and ready to destroy everything, and it tempts all those who want to fulfill their wishes through dark powers.

One thing is that every choice made in the movie has a reward. And this idea matches a lot with Christian teachings – as our actions always have a consequence. Gray Alice struggles with her decisions, and it reminds all of us that if we want any power with wrong intentions, it has a price. We can understand Queen’s love search, but this film shows that when we associate our happiness and desires with anything, there is a spiritual cost to it. Such films make us think a little that we must keep God’s guidance in mind in our decisions, and not just run after our desires.

Now if seen theologically, this film idolizes power and magic too much, which is a major red flag. There is no redemption or spiritual victory in this which our faith, through Christianity, shows us. Here, at every step, the characters face another dilemma because of their choices, and it is quite intense.

But yes, if you are a fan of action and adventure, then this movie is definitely engaging. There is a good portrayal of loyalty and relationship between Gray Alys and Boyce (Dave Bautista), and they together face dangerous situations. It is visually appealing, and is full of action that can entertain anyone. However, those who want to see a slightly redemptive and uplifting story may find this movie a little depressing.

So, overall In the Lost Lands is a movie that action and fantasy fans might like, but the dark magical elements in it can be spiritually questioning. If you want a movie in which the moral decisions and consequences are highlighted a lot, then this can be a good choice, just always remember that not everything that you see is true.

Final Rating: 3/5 – Entertaining, but will make you do a little soul-searching.
