Love Hurts Christian Review

Yaar, the story of Love Hurts is definitely one that is a little relatable and a little filmy. A person who is trying to forget his entire past and start a new life, and then suddenly that old life, which was hiding, comes in front of him. Now see, the concept of redemption is powerful for everyone, right? Christian or non-Christian, everyone feels that there should be at least one chance in life to correct their mistakes. The same is there in this movie as well, but in a slightly raw, slightly imperfect way.
Now listen to the tagline: “You can’t break up with your past.” This means it is absolutely true, isn’t it? Everyone has a past which comes to the fore at some point or the other, no matter how much you try to ignore it. This line captures the reality of life, and if seen from a Christian perspective, the Bible tells us many times that without grace and repentance, it is not possible to handle one’s baggage properly. But there is a problem here. Does this movie really explore grace and redemption, or is it just a show? Meaning, the mix of action and comedy is good, but at some places it feels like crime and wrongdoings have been treated a little casually, as if they are normal things. That part feels a little shallow.

There was a potential to go deeper in the movie. Like, if the person is dealing with his brother or with his inner demons, if we had explored it more, it would have been a different fun. For now it feels like the story just touches the surface. But still, for the person who is interested in redemption stories, this could be a good angle.
Look, on the one hand the action and comedy are entertaining, and on the other hand there is a reflective layer as well which will surely connect with the right audience. But if you as a Christian are thinking that this movie will inspire you deeply about God’s plan, then you might be disappointed. This is a light-hearted film, which at times does not take its own theme too serious.
So, from my side? 3 out of 5 stars. The movie is worth watching, just don’t have too spiritual or serious expectations. For a one-time pass, a little scope to think, and a little fun – it is on that level. Just watch it by filtering it according to your perspective.
