Better Man Christian Review

Hey listen, I was thinking of watching Better Man but the movie opened up a whole storehouse of mixed emotions. That is, on one hand, it is the story of Robbie Williams – a rollercoaster of rise, fall and comeback – but on the other hand, if seen from a Christian perspective, this movie seems a little problematic. It will force you to think but will leave a heavy aftertaste.
Let’s start with what I liked. The vulnerability of Robbie’s life that is shown seems real. His struggle with the pressures of fame, mental health issues and addiction will genuinely touch you. Somewhere there is a shadow of redemption, and yes, a person can bounce back even from the worst stage of his life. I liked this part, honestly.
But then comes the rest of the content, which takes you into a different zone. Brother, you overdosed on explicit scenes! Leave the abuses aside, sexual scenes and drugs have been shown so openly that sometimes it feels like, was all this necessary? Meaning, too much shock value has been added to the name of the story, and at times it feels that they are glorifying the struggle that he was fighting. This seems problematic, especially when you look at it through a moral and spiritual lens.

And talking about spirituality, it is totally missing. A faith-based layer with a good redemption arc would make the story more impactful. But this just skims the surface – just a guy fighting his demons, and that’s where the story ends. There is no mention of any higher power that could have brought in a spiritual dimension.
Parental guidance? Brother, you have to be strict. The scenes of graphic violence, drug abuse, and self-harm are quite distressing. Kids should not pass by this movie and if you are sensitive then it would be better to skip it.
Now in the end, what should I say? If you are a big fan of Robbie Williams or you like to explore celebrity struggles, then this movie is for you. But if you want to watch a story of redemption and hope through a Christian lens, then miss this one. It just gives a glimpse of a glamorous and chaotic world, without any deeper meaning. Do you want to celebrate God’s grace and faith? Then not this one, find some other movie.
Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
Better Man is the raw and unfiltered story of British pop superstar Robbie Williams that explores his fame, addiction, mental health struggles, and resurgence. However, when viewed from a Christian perspective, the explicit content and themes of this film raise many concerns.
